My Week With Marilyn-DVD Review #DVDReview

Once I knew this film was out for rent I headed straight to my local Redbox to get my hands on it. After reading the review I expected to see a lighthearted tale about the iconic Marilyn Monroe. Instead I found a haunting look into what her life was really like and it wasn’t at all glamorous. Michelle Williams did an outstanding of acting like Marilyn, so much so I sometimes had to remind myself that it wasn’t really her. Their faces look incredibly alike but Michelle did get a boost in the top, rear and hip area to fill out Marilyn’s dress.

In the film we are getting a one-week glimpse of what Marilyn’s life was really like. She’s flown to England to make a movie for a week and is faced with working on set with a new crew. Yes, there is a slight romance between her and a young boy but honestly for me that melted away and all I could see was the tragedy of her life. She was beloved by many and obviously made gobs of money for those she worked for. Throughout the film you see her be treated like an animal and sedated when she got too out-of-hand. She was also more shy and unsure of her acting ability than I expected. I was amazed to see how she can turn the character of “Marilyn Monroe” on for a crowd and then off  when she left the cameras. Left with her own thoughts she became  a real woman who is suffering with her confidence, emotions and a drug problem. Everyone in her life is completely taking advantage of her and she’s utterly lost. Her spirit is almost childlike as she desperately seeks approval from everyone around her.

I enjoyed watching this movie because it was brutally honest and didn’t depict her as Marilyn but as herself. Michelle Williams deserved every nomination she received and I can’t wait to see what she will star in next. Whatever it is, we can expect to see her nominated for many awards to come.

The Hunger Games Makes a Killing at Box Office-Review #TheHungerGames

The Hunger Games Makes a Killing at Box Office-Review #TheHungerGames

I saw The Hunger Games on Saturday and completely loved it. I tried to go in with no expectations so I wouldn’t be disappointed if the screenplay wasn’t great. What I found was a thrilling display of scenes that mirrored exactly how I pictured them in my mind.

I loved that the film didn’t waste any time and you were shown the reaping within the first 20 minutes or so. For me, the emotional display by Katniss volunteering to take her little sister’s place in The Hunger Games brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t expect to cry that early in the film but because the acting was so outstanding I felt like I was there experiencing everything the children were. I should mention that I don’t cry in movies so this was a rare and welcomed surprise.

The Capital was done really well and the people are just as crazy looking as I imagined. Time seemed to fly by in the film and it seemed as though we were only shown a brief snippet of the Capital as well as the training the tributes received. Three, two, one…almost instantly we were thrown into the game following Katniss throughout her journey. I don’t want to giveaway too much of the plot in case you haven’t seen it yet.

The only downside for the film is that it did not include a few sections of the book, which was likely due to the director having to pack everything 2-3 hour film.

Whether you have read the books or not, this film will delight you. Every character cast in this film did an excellent job of bringing this book to life by reflecting the correct tone throughout the entire story. Jennifer Lawrence was born to do this role and this movie truly represents how talented she really is.

From the very first second we arrive in District 12 to the moment we leave it, the story will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. I will say that in my theater there were young children there and I don’t advise taking them to see this movie. It graphically shows little kids killing other kids and should not be shown to younger viewers. Overall, this is the must see film of the year and deserving of your dollars. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games gets ready to launch in the USA-Fans Get Ready #THEHUNGERGAMES

The big headline on every newspaper, magazine or news show this week likely has something to do with The Hunger Games. The movie is expected to be the biggest grossing film of the year and is set to be released on Friday. For months now fans have been watching commercials and clips from the film with much anticipation and are finally ready to see it on the big screen.

On RottonTomatoes.com, most critics are heavily praising the film and so far it’s ranked above 90%, which adds to the buzz surrounding the film. Several people are comparing these films to the Twilight franchise, which earned a score of below 50% for every film (according to critics on RottenTomatoes.com), so I don’t exactly think it’s fair to stack these two films together. By simply adding Jennifer Lawrence as the lead in The Hunger Games it already makes the movie way beyond Kristen’s lame acting in Twilight. Also, Twilight mainly appeals to women and this franchise appeals to both men and women so I think it will do much better.

If you are going to compare it to a franchise, then we should be looking at it against Harry Potter. Each one of the Potter films appealed to both men and women and each film earned rave reviews. As a fan of the books, the main thing I am hoping is that the movie sticks to the storyline of the books and that it has a well written screenplay. I have my tickets to see it on Saturday and cannot wait. I will be reporting my thoughts after I see it. Happy Hunger Games.

Web Video Wendesday: Hunger Games Coming Soon

Words cannot describe how excited I am to go see The Hunger Games. I purchased my tickets already and am really hoping it doesn’t disappoint me. I love the books and am hoping that the screenplay is just as good.

People are comparing this to Twilight but I truly hope that’s not the case since the screenplays for the Twilight movies were all pretty terrible compared to the books. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is a much better actress than Kristen, if I am being honest; so I have high hopes for the cast. You must have been living under a rock if you haven’t seen this trailer yet but it’s worth watching over again and again. Can’t get enough. May the odds be in your favor.

Reality is setting in

Reality is setting in

I haven’t written for awhile due to personal issues. I am allowing myself time to think over where I want to take this blog so it benefits me personally. Lately, I have found the celebrity scene to be boring and outright stupid news. I’m done living my life watching others; it’s time to make my own life happen. I will be back when I am back but for now it’s good to know Mrs. Glam is here waiting for me. Just a quick note to say, “Hello lover.”

MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Exes Creates War Not Love

MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Exes Creates War Not Love

I am a huge fan of MTV’s The Challenge and never miss a season. It’s one show my husband and I actually enjoy watching together. The new season The Challenge: Battle of the Exes airing Wednesday, Jan. 25th at 10 p.m. is sure to be another great show filled with adventure and crazy stunts.

This season each team is made up of couples…well not really couples that are together, Exes to be exact. Can you imagine being paired with your Ex? I can’t imagine the amount of drama this crew will encounter. It’s going to get even more awkward when they start talking about their past relationships and bring up old hurts. I cannot wait to watch and hope you tune in as well.

My early favorites in this cast are CT and Diem and Abram and Cara Maria. I hope either one of those groups when and honestly I am pulling for both sets of couples to get back together. I guess we will see. It’s amazing this cast ranges from Real World season 12 to Real World season 26-it’s the original reality show. Who do you think will win?

Meet the exes:

  • Diem (CH 12: Fresh Meat) / CT (RW 13: Paris)
  • Tyrie (RW 18: Denver) / Jasmine (RW 22: Cancun)
  • Dustin (RW 25: Las Vegas) / Heather (RW 25: Las Vegas)
  • Abram (RR 12: South Pacific) / Cara Maria (CH 19: Fresh Meat II)
  • Wes (RW 16: Austin) / Mandi (CH 19: Fresh Meat II)
  • Naomi (RW 25: Las Vegas) / Leroy (RW 25: Las Vegas)
  • Emily (RW 23: DC) / Ty (RW 23: DC)
  • Priscilla (RW 26: San Diego) / Nate (RW 26: San Diego)
  • Rachel (RR 11: Campus Crawl) / Aneesa (RW 11: Chicago)
  • Robin (RW 14: San Diego) / Mark (RR 1)
  • Camila (CH: Spring Break 2010) / Johnny (RW 17: Key West)

Pinterest Obessed and Loving it!

If you haven’t found Pinterest, then you are missing out! The site is every woman’s dream and will literally take away hours from your life as you gaze at the images. I was reluctant to join Pinterest but after the 30th girl encouraged me to join, I decided I would. I added my name to yet another social networking site and away I went. I easily spent the day looking at food, pets, beauty, the travel section and more! I was like a crazed woman pinning as many delicious recipes I could and finding joy in my new found distraction.

My favorite thing about the site is the recipes. I have tried several and had my husband, a.k.a picky eater, taste test them and hit home runs with them all. It’s causing me to find a new joy in cooking I thought I had lost. I highly encourage anyone who isn’t sure if they should sign up to take the plunge and dive in to this new experience. I do think the site is swarmed with females so I am not sure if men would enjoy it as much. I give the site a thumbs up and my full belly approval. Happy Pinning!

Happy Birthday to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton

Happy Birthday to Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton

It’s her 30th birthday and she looks amazing! I am not sure what’s in store for her birthday yet but rumor has it Pippa will be planning a bash worthy of royal praise. I am sure it will be an exciting time but as she turns 30 the pressure to conceive a baby is increased. She and Prince William are not getting any younger so it will be expected that she gets pregnant soon. Most royals tend to have children and marry at a young age so they are breaking away from the “norm.” Hopefully she can worry about having children tomorrow and just focus on celebrating tonight.  Cheers Kate!

Kate attended the premier of War Horse and walked the red carpet along with the star studded cast.

Kate Middleton is Pregnant-Source says she is 6 weeks along

Rumors are swirling that Kate Middleton or Duchess Katherine is about six weeks pregnant according to In Touch Magazine. The magazine has an insider who has confirmed some other important events involving the royals so I am thinking this might be a credible source. In the last couple weeks Kate has reportedly turned down alcohol and peanut butter both signs she is pregnant. Also, the couple recently started putting effort into remodeling their homes, which could be a sign they are preparing for their future child. MSNBC reported that the Royal couple invited Kate’s parents to a secret getaway in Scotland about a week ago, which would be the perfect time to announce they are expecting to let them know before the media gets hold of the news. The signs are looking like she is currently pregnant. The palace will make an official announcement as soon as they know she will not have a miscarriage or any other pregnancy complications. Do you think she is pregnant? Read the In Touch article here: Kate’s Pregnant.
